In order to understand the alignment between the pro Hamas and pro Ukraine folks, you have to look at it as the glorification of perceived victimhood. That’s the only way to understand the “Queers for Hamas”, people aligning themselves with their fellow victims. And don’t be mistaken - this is, in my opinion, the most powerful force in politics these days. So your analysis is outdated, even though I agree with it, don’t get me wrong!

Yes 'perceived victimhood' is what it must be.

The US clearly needs a new strategy for Russia/Iran. Trump's approach is to capitulate. Harris is more of the same. Neither will work. That does not mean I know what will. I wish Harris had been clearer on the economy. Trump was a disaster on the economy running up the debt with little economic growth in return. Biden has done much better. His policies have worked and need to be deepened and extended. Compare US performance to other major economies and they look very good.

Biden does better also does nothing about the enormous US deficit except run it up. That may be an Achilles heel if a war economy is needed--we've already borrowed to the hilt and we'll need to spend plenty for armaments. But that notwithstanding someone needs to get their steel balls on and take care of Iran and Peter is right that Americans don't appear to have the stomach to take more forthright action. With Russia engaged in Ukraine this may be a good time to retract some of Iran's capabilities.
