Last Wednesday’s brief market analysis got some nice feedback and new subscribers, thanks, it is really appreciated. A few months ago my posts on Ukraine got the same level of attention. It is hard to determine where everyone’s interest is, but I think that disruptive news regardless of whether it is politics or markets is what animates people. That is the case in particular in these uncertain times where the search for accurate information and not overly biased viewpoints is not always that easy.
It is my plan to start doing regular daily updates - minus the weekend - and let the content flow depending on the news. I also want to do some longer pieces that dive a bit deeper into issues and which will be longer and more analytical. So there’s that and I will also occasionally stray into the areas of culture and maybe even social trends and developments as they emerge. The focus is global, of course, but there are countries where I have some deeper knowledge and affection for and you will see how that will unfold over the months to come.
The nice thing is to spot trends and indicate where we might be going. Europe as a political entity is being reformatted as the Ukraine war rages on and the US is, like it or not, becoming more isolationist. The latter itself is getting ready for a brutal political season as the Republicans and Democrats are gearing up to control congress during the fall mid-term elections this year. The trend of polarization that is now present in all mature western democracies can help us understand, compare and contrast. All of this is getting more complicated as inflation, energy constraints and another potential pandemic are adding fuel to the fire. Authoritarian behaviour is omnipresent too. But there’s hope in the form of younger generations carving out new ways to do business and build new tech companies to solve our current challenges. Lot of older people do that too, by the way. My daily business of advising and investing in the start-up world will therefore be in the mix too.
So a search for truth and diving deeper into trends and if I run out of reservoirs of thought I will gladly point you to other writers, vloggers and podcasters. There is a lot out there but little is really good and informative.
I do realize I will put myself out there with some opinions that are not always palatable for everyone, but the search for the unvarnished truth is never an easy one. Honest and well reasoned feedback is always welcome, by way of comments or dropping me an e-mail. Spreading the word is of course the best, so feel free to share my content on whatever platform you prefer. If this all works out I hope to bring in some paid features (Substack is a truly versatile platform) and turn it into a little media venture, something I have always wanted to do. On many levels it feels the time is right.
I doubt that you will run out of reservoirs for thought, but introductions to other sources of information and ideas are always welcome.
Love the plan!
